Landscaping projects in Cambridge
Porcelain patio & Millboard decking completed with new lawn and flower beds
Emerald landscapes took on and created a stunning little residential project just outside of Cambridge and used various landscaping methods to bring our happy clients garden to life.
Cambridge Project: Patio
Part of the initial garden design meeting is to offer our expert ideas and combine them with our clients concepts, in this case they wanted to incorporate some height change.
To create this aspect we installed a raised composite decking area built using one of the market leading composite decking supplier Millboard. The built in LED lighting and curved fascias really showcase this beautiful project and offer a change in surface within the design.
The main patio area was constructed using high end porcelain tiles from London stone.
Within the brief our client asked for a link to a secondary paving area which is a little sun trap down the bottom of their garden, a sweeping path now leads the way.
Turf is an integral part of a British garden that provides multiple different uses all year round, we stripped out the old, patchy, moss covered lawn and laid new turf ready to be enjoyed.
Oak raised flower beds tied the rest of the project in by running down either side of the remaining fence line, once planted this spring they will offer that stunning burst of colour and fragrant smell whilst in their newly transformed outdoor space.
Our experienced landscaping team at Emerald landscapes started the project by excavating the whole garden to determine the correct levels.
We put up string lines and used the laser level to calculate all the aspects of the project.
As part of our service we expertly survey the land to ensure the subsoil is firm enough to complete our project at the highest standards.
The next phase of constructing the landscaping project is to cart in and compact a substrate base for the patio area that will create the foundation for our porcelain tiles.
The porcelain tiles are laid on a full mortar bed with an SBR slurry mix painted on the back of each tile for greater cohesion, these were then laid in a stretcher bond pattern.
Carpentry is the next element of the build, a fabricated sub-frame built from tanalised treated timber concreted into the ground for stability.
This base allows us to carefully and delicately fix the Millboard decking to the frame and fit the bullnose edging strips to finish.
To fix the 600mm high ( 3 sleeper ) Oak raised beds we had to concrete internal posts to allow us to lay each sleeper on its side and fill the beds with good quality top soil and soil improver ready to be planted and brought to life.
